In 2005, we cut the ribbon for a school that was ripe with innovative ideas to support the affective domain, knowing that the instructional domain would flourish.

Eight years later, we close the door on that effort with the promise of a new, improved educational opportunity for students in the future.

Welcome to the John J. Pershing West Middle School website! This is the best place you can go to get information about Pershing West Middle School without making a visit to our school. It is our hope that any questions you have are answered here. We are always willing to dialog with you so If there is any information that you cannot find on this site, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are excited about this school year and know, as our mascot the monarch indicates, that change happens. We have new faculty and staff members, new activities and exciting opportunities for the entire Pershing West School Family.

Pershing West is one of four schools within the city of Chicago to receive the Leader in Me program. This program uses Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People as a foundation to facilitate leadership in our entire school family. Look for our first Leadership Day coming in May.

We embrace MindUp, practices embedded into our school day that remind us to make mindful decisions. We are one of two schools in the city with this program.

In the future, you will see physical changes to our building. We are looking to add more permanent art pieces. We will host our 2nd Annual Paint Brush Ball in June and will dedicate a space to our recently fallen Mr. Gibson.
